Abigail Garside, 30, from Blackburn, was discovered in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, after a passer-by found her deceased. She and her husband, Samuel Garside, had been toasting their one-year marriage milestone at the Rudding Park resort and spa.

On August 17, the couple posted on social media to celebrate their anniversary. Abigail shared a photo of them in a hot tub, clinking champagne glasses, with the caption: “Lovely day in Harrogate celebrating our first wedding anniversary with my love.”

Samuel also posted a tribute, sharing wedding photos and writing, “1 year since you became my wife!! I love you more and more everyday, happy anniversary.”

The following morning, on August 18, Abigail’s body was discovered in a public garden area in the town center. At a provisional inquest opening, senior coroner John Heath confirmed the cause of death as hanging. The inquest was adjourned to a later date.

The tragic news was shared by Samuel, who posted a photo of the couple on Facebook, writing, “My absolute world, my best friend and my beautiful darling wife. I will love you forever and you will never leave my heart.”

According to the inquest, the couple had been planning a move to Australia in October. Both had secured visas and had been openly excited about the “new adventure” on social media.

Abigail, a talented dressage rider, was laid to rest in a funeral procession that featured a horse-drawn carriage. The memorial page requested donations to two charities close to her heart: the mental health charity Mind and the Dog’s Trust.
