Glam Influencers Accused of Using Children in Pharmacy Theft Ring

Two glamorous social media influencers who built online reputations around beauty, lifestyle, and business expertise are facing serious criminal allegations in Brazil, after police accused them of running a theft-and-resale operation that relied on children to carry out robberies.

Authorities in Salvador, a major coastal city in northeastern Brazil, allege that Claudiana Rocha and Laís Santiago orchestrated a network of underage thieves who targeted pharmacies across the city.

According to investigators, the stolen goods included high-demand beauty products and injectable weight-loss medications, often referred to as “fat jabs,” which were then resold for profit.

The arrests were made on Wednesday as part of a large-scale police operation aimed at dismantling an organized retail theft ring believed to have been operating for months.

Both women were taken into custody after coordinated raids across multiple locations in Salvador.

Collectively, Rocha and Santiago have more than 100,000 followers across their social media platforms.

Santiago is known online as a lifestyle and dance influencer, regularly sharing videos about fashion, fitness, and daily routines.

Rocha, an aesthetician, presented herself as a mentor for aspiring beauty professionals, often posting advice about running successful beauty businesses and attracting clients.

Shortly after news of the arrests emerged, information from Rocha’s Instagram biography was removed, including references to professional mentoring and business coaching.

Police say the public personas carefully curated online stood in stark contrast to the activities alleged to have taken place behind the scenes.

According to investigators, the group deliberately recruited teenagers to carry out the thefts because minors typically face less severe legal consequences than adults under Brazilian law.

The adolescents were allegedly instructed to enter pharmacies and steal specific items that could later be resold on the informal market.

Several teenagers have already been detained and questioned in connection with the robberies. Police say their testimonies were crucial in identifying the alleged organizers and the buyers of the stolen goods.

The operation, dubbed “Operation Mirakel,” has so far led to multiple arrests and the seizure of mobile phones, documents, and other materials believed to be linked to the resale network.

Authorities confirmed that six individuals were targeted during arrest and search-and-seizure actions, while two additional suspects were already serving prison sentences in Salvador at the time of the investigation.

Investigators say the theft ring focused heavily on weight-loss injections due to soaring demand for the products. Health officials have repeatedly warned that such medications, when sold illegally, pose serious risks to consumers.

Black-market injectable drugs may be counterfeit, improperly stored, expired, or administered at incorrect dosages, potentially leading to severe health complications. Authorities fear that products stolen from pharmacies and resold without regulation could put buyers at significant risk.

The second phase of the investigation involved an estimated 300 officers drawn from Brazil’s Civil Police, Military Police, and Technical Police units.

Intelligence officers from the Bahia State Public Security Secretariat also took part, underscoring the scale and seriousness of the alleged operation.

Officials say the investigation remains ongoing and that further arrests cannot be ruled out as police continue analyzing seized data and interviewing suspects.

The case has sparked widespread debate in Brazil, particularly over the alleged exploitation of minors and the contrast between the influencers’ glamorous online images and the accusations they now face.

Both women remain in custody as the legal process continues. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether additional charges will be filed, but prosecutors are expected to pursue organized crime and corruption-related offenses if evidence supports the claims.
