Apple Martin’s Approach to Wellness: A Refreshing Departure from Gwyneth Paltrow’s Strict Diet.
While Gwyneth Paltrow is renowned for her stringent wellness practices, her daughter, Apple Martin, 21, appears to be carving her own path in the world of health and diet.
The Vanderbilt University student, currently majoring in Law, History, and Society, recently offered a glimpse into her more relaxed lifestyle, highlighting a generational shift in attitudes towards food and wellness within the famous family.
Over a recent weekend in East Hampton, Apple Martin was seen embracing a more conventional culinary choice: takeout pizza.
The meal, reportedly from a local Italian restaurant, featured two pizzas topped with zucchini and rosemary.
This choice subtly contrasts with her mother’s well-documented avoidance of processed foods, dairy, sugar, and salt, though the inclusion of vegetables might suggest a nod to “Goop-adjacent” preferences if shared with her mother.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Evolving Dietary Philosophy
Interestingly, Gwyneth Paltrow, 52, has also recently acknowledged a shift in her own dietary habits.
After years of adhering to an ultra-strict Paleo diet, the Oscar winner revealed in April that she had grown “a little bit sick of it” and was “eating very very healthily.”
On her podcast, Paltrow admitted to reintroducing “a little pasta” and other indulgences like sourdough bread and cheese into her diet.
This evolution in her approach suggests a growing understanding of the need for flexibility, perhaps influenced by her children’s perspectives.
Paltrow has long recognized her children’s autonomy regarding health and wellness. In 2022, she openly discussed her philosophy concerning Apple and her son, Moses, 19. “I try not to force anything on them,” she stated, acknowledging Moses’s reluctance to even take a vitamin.
“They were raised in an environment where wellness is important and they will adopt what they choose to, or not. They have free will.”
She further elaborated on her approach: “My philosophy is in the house I try to have healthier things around.
But they have free will and when they’re out of the house, I’m sure they go for the Oreos and the McNuggets. More power to them.” This stance highlights a balanced perspective, encouraging healthy habits at home while accepting that children will explore other food choices outside.
Looking back, Paltrow admitted her initial attempts to instill a low-carb, gluten-free diet in her children were met with the inevitable allure of childhood treats.
In a 2013 Goop newsletter, she candidly shared, “I tried to start them off with all of the right foods, but as they got older, the lure of Oreos and cotton candy outweighed the lure of carrots with hummus.”
She emphasized the importance of ensuring nutritious and tasty meals at home while loosening the reins when dining out.
“They love a brown rice stir-fry, but they also love their ‘Coke of the week’,” the Iron Man actress revealed, adding, “My daughter gravitates toward fresh fruit and raw nuts but will inhale a bag of hot Cheetos at the airport. It’s all about balance.”
Cultivating Culinary Skills and Passion
Despite their varying dietary approaches, a shared love for cooking appears to run in the family. Paltrow has consistently involved her children in the kitchen from a young age, encouraging participation in everything from cracking eggs to stirring ingredients.
“From very early on, I encouraged them to participate and let them do ‘dangerous’ tasks such as cracking an egg or stirring something carefully over heat, and they always felt proud,” she recalled.

This hands-on approach has clearly resonated with Apple. In April, she enthusiastically confirmed her passion for cooking in an interview with Interview magazine.
“Oh my god, this is my favorite part about living alone in an apartment, is that I get to cook all the time,” she raved.
“I make phenomenal garlic bread. Out of this world. I also love making Caesar salad, but from scratch—dressing and croutons.”
While their dietary paths diverge, Apple Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow do share a common ground in fitness. Both are notable adherents to Tracy Anderson’s high-intensity dance workouts and aerobics classes, showcasing a commitment to physical well-being that transcends specific dietary restrictions.
