Wednesday Season 2 Is Here, Bringing More Woe to Nevermore.
The wait is over for fans of the macabre and mysterious. Wednesday Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix, with the first four episodes of Part 1 available for viewers. The new season promises an even darker and more complex journey for Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, as she returns to Nevermore Academy to face a new supernatural mystery.
This season, the line between Wednesday’s family life and her school life is completely obliterated. The entire Addams family, including parents Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán), and younger brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), have expanded roles and find themselves more involved with Nevermore. For Wednesday, who values her independence and solitude, this familial intrusion is the ultimate nightmare, though it provides plenty of new and comedic drama for the audience. The show’s co-showrunners, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, have teased that “nothing is what it seems in Season 2,” and Wednesday will quickly realize that despite her best efforts, she is not in control.
The cast has been significantly expanded with a roster of new and intriguing characters. Steve Buscemi joins as Principal Barry Dort, the new headmaster of Nevermore, who is described as a “mysterious figure” with a love for the school and “outcast pride.” Other new series regulars include Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, and Owen Painter, while guest stars feature legendary actors like Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, and Thandiwe Newton.
One of the most anticipated additions to the cast is the icon herself, Lady Gaga. Her guest role was confirmed during a live Netflix event, and she is set to appear in Part 2 of the season. She will play a “legendary Nevermore teacher” named Rosaline Rotwood, who will cross paths with Wednesday. Lady Gaga’s involvement is a nod to the viral dance scene from Season 1, where Ortega’s Wednesday danced to her song “Bloody Mary.”
The new season was filmed in Ireland, a change from the first season’s Romanian locations. The showrunners have praised the filming location, calling it “truly magical” and noting that its gothic landscapes perfectly complement the world of Wednesday.
With a new mystery, expanded roles for the Addams family, and a host of fresh faces, Wednesday Season 2 is set to be a wild ride. Part 1 is available now, with the final four episodes of Part 2 set to drop on September 3.
