The 29-year-old actress appeared in Brazil on Sunday wearing a butter-yellow silk gown inspired by the iconic dress worn by Kate Hudson in the 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Reinhart’s look was part of a larger fashion concept planned for her upcoming press tour, which is designed to celebrate the leading women and memorable style moments from what many fans consider the golden age of romantic comedies.

The Riverdale star shared a carousel of photographs from her appearance on Instagram, showing off the elegant yellow gown while referencing one of the most memorable musical moments from the original movie.

In her caption, Reinhart quoted the Carly Simon lyric, “you probably think this song is about you,” connecting her tribute directly to Hudson’s character, magazine writer Andie Anderson.

In How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Andie famously sings along to Simon’s “You’re So Vain” during a memorable scene, making Reinhart’s caption an intentional nod to Hudson’s character and the movie.

Reinhart’s stylist, Ib Abdel Nasser, revealed that the actress was not wearing the original Carolina Herrera gown from the 2003 film.

Instead, the dress is a 2000s Caché version inspired by the famous design and released shortly after the movie became a cultural hit.

The original gown was custom-made by Carolina Herrera in collaboration with How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days costume designer Karen Patch.

Nasser explained that the yellow dress was deliberately chosen as the starting point for Reinhart’s rom-com-inspired press tour because of its instantly recognizable status among fans.

He also teased that the Brazil appearance is only the beginning of the fashion references planned for the actress.

According to Nasser, Reinhart and her styling team intend to pay homage to “the leading ladies of the Golden Age of rom-coms and romance films” throughout the promotional campaign.

The stylist said they wanted to begin with something particularly iconic for the Brazil leg of the tour because of the country’s passionate fan base.

The choice was especially timely given the renewed interest in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and the possibility of the original stars returning for a sequel.

What happened to Kate Hudson’s original dress?

The famous yellow dress has remained one of the most memorable fashion pieces from the romantic comedy, but its current whereabouts remain a mystery.

Hudson previously revealed that she has no idea where the original gown ended up.

Two versions of the dress were reportedly created for the movie, with the specific shade of yellow selected to complement the Isadora diamond featured in the Harry Winston necklace worn by Hudson’s character during the film’s gala scene.

Despite the significance of the dress, Hudson was not permitted to take one home after production ended.

In a 2021 interview with ELLE, Hudson admitted that she did not know where the gown was and expressed interest in tracking it down.

The actress recalled that Carolina Herrera created the dress with the movie’s costume team and said she believed the iconic piece should be found.

The mystery surrounding the original dress has only added to its status among fans of early-2000s fashion and romantic comedies.

Why the 2003 movie remains a rom-com favorite

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was released more than two decades ago and starred Hudson opposite Matthew McConaughey.

The movie followed Andie Anderson, a magazine writer who agrees to write a feature about the ways women can drive men away from relationships.

To complete the assignment, Andie sets out to make advertising executive Benjamin Barry fall for her while simultaneously doing everything she can to make him want to end the relationship within 10 days.

However, Benjamin has a secret plan of his own.

He has made a bet with his co-workers that he can convince a woman to fall in love with him within the same period.

The two therefore enter the relationship with completely different motives, unaware that they are both trying to manipulate the outcome.

The combination of the competing schemes, Hudson and McConaughey’s chemistry and the movie’s memorable fashion moments helped turn the film into a lasting romantic comedy favorite.

‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ sequel reportedly in development

Reinhart’s fashion tribute arrives at an interesting moment for fans of the original film because a sequel was recently reported to be in development at Paramount.

According to reports, the project is still in its early stages, with details about the screenplay and wider cast still being worked out.

Hudson is expected to be involved as a producer, while both Hudson and McConaughey have been reported as intended returning stars.

Nothing about the sequel has been finalized publicly, but the possibility of seeing Andie and Benjamin again has generated renewed interest in the original movie.

The timing has also been notable because McConaughey has previously spoken positively about the idea of returning to the story.

In a 2020 interview, the actor suggested that the original movie was well positioned for a follow-up and described it as one of the romantic comedies that could naturally support another chapter.

More recently, McConaughey discussed the film’s lasting financial success and revealed that it remains one of his most lucrative movies through residual payments.

He also recalled how the movie performed particularly well around Valentine’s Day during the era when DVD sales and cable television were major sources of viewing.

McConaughey has continued to describe How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days as an important entry in the romantic comedy genre.

Kate Hudson has also hinted at a return

Hudson herself has appeared to have fun with the renewed attention surrounding the movie.

In June, the actress shared two stills from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days showing Andie and Benjamin attending a New York Knicks game.

The timing was notable because the post followed the Knicks’ NBA Finals victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Hudson captioned the Instagram post with “Déjà vu” and a winking emoji, prompting fans to speculate about whether she was teasing the possibility of returning to the beloved characters.

While the actress did not explicitly confirm details about a sequel in that post, the playful reference added fuel to the growing excitement surrounding the franchise.

For Reinhart, meanwhile, the yellow dress tribute offers a way to connect her upcoming project with the romantic comedy movies that influenced a generation of viewers.

Her fashion choice also demonstrates how influential early-2000s rom-com style remains more than 20 years after How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days first hit theaters.

With The Love Hypothesis now entering its promotional campaign, fans can expect Reinhart’s upcoming appearances to continue drawing inspiration from memorable romantic comedy stars and their most recognizable looks.

The Brazil appearance has already established the theme: rather than simply promoting a new movie, Reinhart and her stylist are using the press tour to celebrate the women, fashion and stories that helped define the genre.
