Olivia Jade Giannulli, the 25-year-old YouTube personality and model, has announced her relocation to Paris, France. The news, shared in her latest vlog titled “I moved to Paris…”, marks a significant personal change for Giannulli, who has recently been seen modeling in Italy. This move comes six years after her parents, Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli, were embroiled in the infamous college admissions scandal.
In her 12-minute YouTube upload, Olivia Jade greeted her nearly two million subscribers from Paris, expressing her excitement for this new “adventure” and her plans to create more content from the French capital. Her vlog showcased picturesque scenes of the Eiffel Tower and other iconic Parisian landmarks, signaling a fresh start in a new country.
Giannulli detailed her initial experiences in Paris, including the discovery that her apartment, like many in the city, lacks air conditioning and relies on fans. Her early activities in the city have included attending fashion shows for prominent brands like Chanel and Patou, giving her followers a glimpse into the high-fashion world she inhabits. She also shared more relatable moments, such as grocery shopping with a friend, arranging flowers, and enjoying evening strolls. “I love how light it stays for so long in the days. It feels amazing,” she marveled in her video.
Looking ahead, Olivia Jade also teased the upcoming launch of her own business, “hopefully at the end of this year,” indicating a foray into entrepreneurship. She conveyed enthusiasm to her fans, stating, “There’s just a lot going on, and it’s all really good and really exciting.”
Reflecting on the “Varsity Blues” Scandal and Privilege
The vlog also saw Olivia Jade candidly addressing the “Operation Varsity Blues” college admissions scandal, which became public in March 2019 and led to her parents’ convictions for fraud. She offered her perspective on the events, acknowledging that “On paper, it’s bad. It’s really bad.” However, she added, “I think what a lot of people don’t know is that my parents just came from a place of, ‘I love my kids, I just want to help my kids. Whatever is best for them.'” She believes her parents “thought it was normal.”
Giannulli admitted her initial surprise at the public’s strong reaction to the scandal, recalling asking herself, “How are people mad about this?” She attributed this initial confusion to her privileged upbringing, explaining, “in the bubble that I grew up in, I didn’t know so much outside of it.” She claimed that “a lot of kids in that bubble, their parents were donating to schools and doing stuff that advantaged.”
“It’s not fair and it’s not right, but it was happening,” she asserted. “And so, when this first came out, I was like, ‘I don’t really understand what’s wrong with this.'”
She elaborated on her previous lack of awareness regarding her privilege, stating, “I didn’t realize at the time that was privilege. I didn’t put those two together. I was like, ‘Well, this is what everybody does, and my parents worked really hard and I don’t understand.'” She now recognizes that “that’s not how it should be and unfortunately, that’s how it was, and I’m grateful for this situation to see that big change and that big difference in my own mind.”
While emphasizing that she doesn’t “want pity,” Olivia Jade stressed the importance of learning from past mistakes and the desire for a “second chance to redeem myself, to show I’ve grown.”
Since the scandal, Olivia Jade has steadily rebuilt her presence in social media influencing and YouTube vlogging after a significant hiatus.
