Their appearance drew warm applause from crowds waiting in the cold, many of whom braved sleet to welcome the royal couple back to one of the most beloved evenings in the entertainment calendar.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, stunned in a striking emerald velvet floor-length gown, while Prince William wore a classic black-tie tuxedo, the pair stepping onto the red carpet looking united, confident, and visibly delighted to return.

Smiling to guests and well-wishers, Catherine said it was “so nice to be back,” a sentiment echoed warmly by those in attendance.

The couple were greeted by Colonel Jane Davis, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, as well as senior representatives from the Royal Albert Hall and executives from ITV, which will broadcast the show next month.

Their attendance marks the sixth time the Prince and Princess of Wales have attended the Royal Variety Performance, continuing a long-standing royal tradition.

Inside the foyer, Catherine chatted politely with charity executives, visibly moved as the evening’s excitement set in—goosebumps spotted on her arms as she smiled and spoke with guests.

Before taking their seats, the Princess received a seasonal bouquet from nine-year-old twins Emelie and Olivia Edwards, who had been chosen for the honour through a family connection with Brinsworth House, the Royal Variety Charity’s residential home.

The girls presented Catherine with a woodland-themed posy reflecting winter’s quiet beauty.

Bending down to thank them personally, the Princess asked whether they were fans of Paddington before playfully revealing that she and Prince William would need to keep the show’s Paddington performance secret from their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

“My kiddies will be very sad,” she joked, bringing a finger to her lips. “We will have to keep it a big secret.”
