Sophie Turner has officially been unveiled as the newest Lara Croft, marking a major milestone for Amazon MGM Studios’ highly anticipated Tomb Raider television series.
The first-look image, released on Instagram, offers fans their initial glimpse of the 29-year-old actress fully transformed into the iconic video game heroine following nearly a year of physical preparation for the role.

The series, currently in production, is based on the globally successful Tomb Raider franchise, which has spanned decades across video games, films, and merchandise.
Turner steps into a role previously portrayed on the big screen by Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s and later by Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot.
With this adaptation, Amazon aims to reintroduce Lara Croft to a new generation through long-form storytelling.
In the first official image shared by Amazon MGM Studios, Turner channels Lara Croft’s classic aesthetic.

She is seen wearing black shorts and a fitted green tank top — a look synonymous with the character — paired with a leather backpack, aviator sunglasses, and her hair styled in a practical braided ponytail.
The post was captioned, “Get your artifacts out. Lara’s on her way,” signaling the studio’s confidence in the reimagining.
Turner has previously spoken about the intense preparation required for the physically demanding role. In an interview with ScreenRant, she revealed that her training began in February 2025, nearly a full year before filming commenced.

“I’ve been training for a long time now,” Turner said. “I feel really prepped, and I feel incredibly lucky to have such a strong relationship with Amazon.
I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it’s going to be something special.”
Her comments highlight the level of commitment behind the project, reinforcing Amazon’s investment in delivering an authentic and high-quality adaptation.
The series also boasts a strong supporting cast, including Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs, adding further credibility and anticipation among fans of both the franchise and prestige television.

Beyond Tomb Raider, Turner has a busy slate ahead. She will next star in the upcoming Amazon Prime drama Steal, a six-episode series set to premiere on January 21.
In the show, Turner plays Zara, an ordinary office worker at pension fund investment firm Lochmill Capital whose routine life is abruptly shattered when an armed criminal gang storms the office.
The series follows Zara and her best friend Luke as they are forced to siphon billions of pounds from pension accounts under threat, placing them at the center of a high-stakes financial crime.
Directed by Sam Miller (I May Destroy You) and Hettie Macdonald (Normal People), Steal is expected to further showcase Turner’s dramatic range beyond blockbuster franchises.

On a personal level, Turner has also been candid about entering a new phase of her life.
In a recent interview with PORTER, she reflected on what she described as a “hard twenties” and expressed a desire for greater calm as she approaches her thirties.
Balancing motherhood with a demanding career, Turner shares daughters Willa, five, and Delphine, three, with her former husband Joe Jonas.
She admitted she has not been actively dating, despite recent speculation surrounding a brief connection with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

“I just want to have some peace in my thirties,” she said. “It’s been really hectic for a long time, and I’m ready to settle a bit.”
As Sophie Turner prepares to lead one of Amazon’s most high-profile franchise series, her transformation into Lara Croft represents both a career evolution and a fresh chapter personally.
With a proven fan base, extensive preparation, and a studio-backed vision, Amazon’s Tomb Raider series is shaping up to be one of the platform’s most closely watched releases.
