Tate McRae stunned on the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet in a custom Grecian-style gown as she celebrated four award nominations and her Miss Possessive Tour.
Tate McRae made a striking entrance at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 8, arriving at UBS Arena in New York in a custom sheer white gown that quickly became one of the most talked-about red carpet looks of the night.

The 22-year-old Canadian singer and songwriter, known for her chart-topping hit “Greedy”, appeared confident and composed as she posed for photos ahead of the ceremony, where she is nominated in four major categories.
The custom gown, designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, featured a Grecian-inspired silhouette with a dramatic low-cut bustier and flowing sheer fabric that showcased the structured bottoms beneath.

McRae completed the look with minimal accessories, including delicate drop earrings and white heeled sandals by Stuart Weitzman. Keeping her appearance elegant yet modern, she wore her honey-blonde hair sleek and straight, styled with feather accents by celebrity hairstylist Chad Wood using Paul Mitchell products.
Her makeup, created by celebrity makeup artist Lilly Keys, featured a smokey, cool-toned finish with products from Neutrogena.

Speaking on the VMAs red carpet, McRae explained the creative inspiration behind her outfit, describing the look as “scorned woman inspired by Medusa… turning boys into stone.”
The artistic theme aligns with McRae’s increasingly bold visual identity, which has characterized her performances and music releases throughout the past year.
Nominated in Four Major Categories
McRae enters this year’s ceremony with nominations in four categories, including:
- Best Pop Artist
- Song of the Year for “Sports Car”
- Best Choreography
- Best Editing
The nominations reflect a milestone moment in McRae’s career, which has rapidly accelerated since the international success of her 2023 and 2024 singles.

Her growing recognition as both a vocalist and performer has positioned her as one of the most influential young artists in global pop music.
Currently on Miss Possessive Tour
McRae is also in the middle of her Miss Possessive Tour, which recently completed a three-night headline run at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
The tour has received widespread attention on social media for its high-energy choreography and polished production, although McRae has experienced a few unexpected wardrobe mishaps along the way.
During a recent performance in Edmonton, Canada on August 7, a viral TikTok video captured McRae accidentally losing her shoe mid-dance, prompting an unplanned comedic moment on stage. In the clip, McRae kicks her heel off by accident, stops briefly, and jokes into the microphone:
“What the f—?”
She then removes her remaining shoe and tosses it aside before resuming the routine barefoot.

Another fan video from the same concert shows a second shoe mishap later in the performance. After the number ended, McRae addressed the audience, saying:
“Hold on, f— the music. I need to put my shoes back on.”
Realizing the shoes had gone missing, she ran off stage before returning with a laugh and telling fans, “This always seems to happen to me in Alberta. Hometown curse, I guess.”

Since then, McRae appears to have switched to strap-secured footwear to avoid further issues.
Public Appearance Follows Recent Breakup
McRae’s return to the spotlight comes shortly after her now-ex-boyfriend, The Kid LAROI, appeared to confirm their split weeks earlier. The Australian rapper, who also attended the 2025 VMAs, has spoken publicly in recent months about his mental health journey and creative direction.

Although neither has directly addressed the breakup in detail, fans have speculated about the emotional undertones present in recent performances.
