London, UK – The highly anticipated return of Channel 4‘s beloved dating show, First Dates, promises its most tear-jerking premiere yet this Friday, July 18. Among the hopeful romantics featured in the emotionally charged episode is Michelle Elman, 32, a familiar face from ITV’s This Morning and a renowned life coach and relationship expert. Elman’s date, a man named Greg, shares a profoundly heartbreaking personal story that resonates deeply, making for a truly poignant encounter.
Michelle Elman made headlines last year when she courageously revealed the swift end of her engagement. After being proposed to, she discovered within just 24 hours that her fiancé had been unfaithful. This devastating experience, which she tearfully recounted on This Morning in April of last year, revealed the depth of the betrayal.

During her This Morning appearance, Elman explained, “I was engaged and then a woman reached out and asked if he was my fiancé. I ended up speaking to her for an hour on the phone. He was on a dating app, he was on a business trip and yeah…” Despite her expertise in relationships, Elman candidly admitted to being blindsided. “I fully back myself. I am emotionally intelligent, smart, intelligent woman. I have every tool in my tool kit to notice red flags. If someone wants to lie to you they will. Wholeheartedly I did not see any red flags. As a red flag the second you go on their phone, the relationship is gone. The trust is gone.”
Elman’s path to becoming a motivational coach and expert stems from her own incredibly challenging childhood, marked by life-threatening health issues, extensive hospital stays, and fifteen complex surgeries. She bravely navigated conditions including a brain tumour, a punctured intestine, an obstructed bowel, a cyst in her brain, and hydrocephalus—a dangerous buildup of fluid in the brain. These experiences, which left her both mentally and physically scarred, have shaped her resilience and empathy, making her uniquely equipped to connect with others facing adversity.
In an exclusive sneak peek of Friday’s First Dates installment, viewers are introduced to Greg, whose story of loss is profoundly moving. He shares the tragic account of losing his girlfriend, Anna, in a car accident. “Monday morning, I got up for work, gave her a kiss, said bye, I love you, she shot up out of bed and gave me another kiss and a hug… That was the last time I saw her.”
Greg recounts the harrowing details to Michelle on their date: “She was on her way to work, drifted onto the other side and had a head on with a taxi driver…” Recalling the moment he received the devastating news, he tells the camera, “I got a phone call [which] said Anna has been in a car accident. She’d damaged all the back of her brain that told her how to breathe. Your life is turned upside down… We kept her on a machine for 24 hours just in case there was a miracle.”

Michelle expresses her deep empathy, admitting, “I don’t even know how you deal with that.” Greg’s reply highlights his incredible strength: “You have to, don’t you? There’s a lot of good that has come from it, to be fair. She was on the organ donors list. She saved six people’s lives which is amazing.”
Despite the immense grief, Greg reveals a courageous readiness to embrace new beginnings. He tells the camera, “So life does go on, and it does go on. So yeah… I’m ready. I’m at that stage. It’s time.”
This highly anticipated premiere promises an evening of genuine connection and raw emotion, showcasing two individuals who have faced significant heartbreak yet remain open to the possibility of finding love. Viewers can tune in to First Dates tonight, Friday, July 18, at 10 PM on Channel 4, or stream the episode on Channel4.com.
