Ukrainian model Veronika Vovk, 21, reveals her dating struggles, claiming shallow men treat her like a trophy while nice guys are too intimidated.
Ukrainian fashion model Veronika Vovk has opened up about the unexpected downsides of high-profile beauty, claiming that her attractive appearance has become a massive barrier to finding true love.
The 21-year-old brunette explained that while confident, shallow men only view her as a status symbol, the kind, attentive partners she actually wants to date are completely overwhelmed and too intimidated to ask her out.
Currently living in Antwerp, Belgium, after fleeing the conflict in her hometown of Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2022, Vovk has successfully built an international modeling career.
However, her professional success and striking looks have complicated her personal life. “I find it hard to date,” Vovk admitted during a candid discussion about her single status.
“Men only see me as a model and not as a person, it’s definitely been a barrier for me finding my ideal boyfriend.”
The Struggle Between Trophy Hunters and Shy Bachelors
According to Vovk, her dating pool is currently divided into two frustrating categories. On one hand, she is constantly approached by bold, aggressive suitors whose intentions are entirely superficial.
These individuals, whom she characterizes as trying to achieve a sort of alpha male status symbol by dating a model, are the only ones brave enough to initiate contact in public spaces.
“They’re the sort of guys who are brave enough to approach me and ask me out, but that’s not the kind of guy I’m looking for,” Vovk explained, emphasizing that she has no interest in being treated like a trophy.
Instead, the rising fashion star hopes to secure a meaningful connection with a well-rounded partner.
Her ideal relationship involves a boyfriend who is genuinely attentive, independent, kind, and interested in planning thoughtful dates.
Unfortunately, Vovk has found that men possessing these traits rarely gather the courage to approach her.
“Sadly my experience has been that this kind of bloke is too shy to shoot their shot and ask me out, so I’ve yet to find my dream man,” she shared.
Adding to the difficulty is Vovk’s highly demanding professional schedule.
The young model frequently jets off to luxury destinations such as Mykonos, Capri, and various fashion hubs across Belgium for intensive, multi-day commercial shoots.
Spending the vast majority of her weeks working long hours on active sets leaves very little free time to cross paths with potential partners organically.
Furthermore, Vovk remains highly traditional when it comes to romance, completely shunning digital alternatives.
She refuses to use popular dating apps, noting that she strongly prefers to meet people face-to-face and allow relationships to develop naturally rather than through a smartphone screen.
Navigating Luxury Modeling Amid the Realities of War
While navigating the complex landscape of modern romance is challenging enough, Vovk is also dealing with deep emotional conflicts regarding her career.
The model, who is currently working on a high-profile campaign for the global fashion brand Guess, admitted that living a luxurious lifestyle in Western Europe feels incredibly bizarre while her home country remains locked in a devastating war.
“It can feel surreal shooting luxury campaigns knowing what’s going on back home,” Vovk confessed.
“You can be standing on a beautiful set, working with a luxury brand or travelling somewhere incredibly beautiful, while knowing that people you love are living through a war back home. Those two realities exist at the same time.”
The contrast between her glamorous day job and the ongoing crisis in Ukraine is something Vovk carries with her constantly.
She admitted to experiencing severe waves of survivor’s guilt, particularly after receiving tragic news regarding the loss of people close to her back home.
Watching individuals her own age enlist and risk their lives on the front lines makes the international travel and high-fashion sets feel entirely strange at times.
Despite the emotional weight, Vovk remains fiercely determined to move her life forward and use her global platform for good.
Rather than letting the conflict define her limits, she is channeling her energy into expanding her international career to prove the resilience of Ukrainian youth.
“I want to keep moving forward, build an international career and show that even after everything Ukraine has been through, its young people still have dreams – and we are determined to make them happen,” Vovk asserted.
While she remains focused on her professional growth and personal healing, she keeps hope alive that the right man will eventually see past the model exterior and appreciate the person underneath.
