Sophie Cunningham Reveals FBI Is Monitoring 20 People Over Stalking Fears

Sophie Cunningham has revealed that the FBI is monitoring around 20 people amid concerns for her safety, as the Indiana Fever star opened up about the frightening reality of dealing with stalkers.

The 30-year-old WNBA guard made the revelation during an appearance on comedian Theo Von’s podcast, where she discussed the darker side of becoming a high-profile professional athlete.

While Cunningham has attracted plenty of attention for her performances on the basketball court, she has also become a recognizable personality away from the game.

The Indiana Fever star has made headlines for her outspoken comments about the WNBA and her growing profile in the modeling world, including her appearance in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.

However, Cunningham explained that increased public attention can also bring unwanted consequences, with stalking becoming a serious concern for players.

Speaking to Von, she revealed that she was aware of multiple people who had allegedly targeted her and suggested that federal authorities were monitoring them.

‘We do have a lot of stalkers. I know I do. And, like, that’s a negative side of things that people don’t think about,’ Cunningham said.

She went on to explain why feeling secure is particularly important for athletes who regularly attract attention from fans and the wider public.

‘And so you do want to feel secure. We’ll have to check if I’m even allowed to say this,’ she added.

Cunningham then made a striking claim about the number of individuals being monitored in connection with concerns about her safety.

‘I have, I think, 20 people, kind of, that the FBI are watching for me,’ she revealed.

Her comments offered a glimpse into the security concerns that can exist behind the scenes for professional athletes whose lives and careers are frequently discussed online.

During the conversation, Cunningham also referred to one man she said she recognized among the individuals allegedly connected to the stalking concerns.

She identified him as Kevin Singh, who is being held at a detention center in Marion County, Indiana, while facing charges relating to alleged incidents involving the basketball star.

‘I know one of them,’ Cunningham told Von.

‘He’s locked away now… His name’s Kevin.’

The WNBA player then brought a moment of humor into the serious discussion by mentioning that her donkey also shares the same name.

‘Do I need to rename Kevin?’ she joked.

Although Cunningham made light of the coincidence, the legal case involving Singh is a serious matter.

He faces charges of felony stalking, felony intimidation and misdemeanor harassment in connection with Cunningham. Singh has pleaded not guilty to the allegations and was arrested in June following a series of incidents.

The charges remain allegations, and Singh is entitled to the presumption of innocence as the legal proceedings continue.

Cunningham’s experience also highlights a wider issue affecting the WNBA, where players’ growing popularity can expose them to unwanted attention away from the court.

She is not the only member of the Indiana Fever who has faced a stalking case.

Her teammate Caitlin Clark was also targeted by a man whose behavior led to a criminal case in 2025.

In July of that year, Michael Lewis pleaded guilty to stalking Clark and was subsequently sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

The case drew attention to the security challenges faced by prominent athletes, particularly those who attract large audiences and have their professional activities followed closely by fans.

For Cunningham, the issue is clearly something she takes seriously, even as she continues to build her profile both as a basketball player and a public figure.

Her conversation with Von provided a rare opportunity to discuss the personal risks that can accompany fame, rather than focusing on basketball, endorsements or her life in the spotlight.

While supporters often see the excitement and opportunities that come with being a recognizable WNBA star, Cunningham’s account revealed a more troubling reality.

Her claim that around 20 people are being monitored by the FBI underscored the extent of the security concerns she says she has faced.

And with other players, including Clark, having dealt with stalking cases of their own, Cunningham’s remarks have brought renewed attention to the importance of protecting athletes beyond the basketball court.
